Delete your account

You can permanently delete your Matchu account and associated personal data at any time. This page explains how to request deletion and what happens after you do. If you just need a break, you can also temporarily pause your account from the app settings without deleting it.

Option 1 — Delete from inside the app (fastest)

1. Open the Matchu app on iOS or Android.
2. Tap Profile in the bottom tab bar.
3. Tap the Settings icon in the top right.
4. Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete account.
5. Confirm your choice. Your account and profile are removed immediately.

Option 2 — Request deletion by email

If you no longer have access to the app, email privacy@matchu.dating from the email address associated with your Matchu account. Include:

• The subject line: Account deletion request;
• The mobile phone number and/or email on your Matchu account;
• Your display name on Matchu, if known.

We will verify your identity, delete your account, and confirm by email within 7 business days.

What gets deleted

When your account is deleted, we remove the following from active systems within 30 days:

• Your profile — display name, age, gender, location, prompts, and interests;
• All photos and voice intros you uploaded;
• Your matches, likes, and swipe history;
• Messages you sent (the copy retained by the other participant in a conversation is subject to their own account lifecycle);
• Your email, mobile number, and authentication credentials;
• App-usage analytics tied to your account.

Encrypted backups are purged on our rolling backup cycle, within 90 days.

What we may retain

To comply with legal obligations and keep the community safe, we retain limited data:

• Safety records: hashed device or account identifiers, records of terminated accounts, and reports of serious Terms violations — retained up to 5 years to prevent banned users from returning.
• Transaction records: subscription and purchase records kept as long as required by tax and accounting law. (Matchu does not store payment card data — see our Privacy Policy.)
• Legal holds: any data subject to an active legal request or ongoing investigation.

Cancel your subscription first

Deleting your Matchu account does not cancel any active subscription. Subscriptions are billed by Apple or Google. Cancel before deleting:

• iPhone / iPad: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Matchu → Cancel Subscription.
• Android: Google Play Store → Menu → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Matchu → Cancel subscription.

Deletion is permanent

Once deleted, your account cannot be recovered. If you sign up again later you'll start with a fresh, empty account.
